Inspiration

Managing personal finances can often be overwhelming and challenging, so the team wanted to create a user-friendly and efficient expense tracker that simplifies the process.

What it does

SpendWise is a comprehensive expense tracker that allows users to easily record and categorize their incomes and expenses. Users can create different categories for their spending, such as groceries, utilities, entertainment, and more. The tracker then generates visual charts and graphs that provide a clear overview of their financial activities. These charts make it easy for users to visualize their spending patterns, identify areas where they can cut back, and set budgeting goals for the future.

One of the standout features of SpendWise is its integration with Speechly, a powerful voice recognition technology. Users can simply speak their expenses into the app, and Speechly automatically adds them to the appropriate category. This seamless integration makes expense tracking even more effortless and convenient, allowing users to keep a real-time record of their finances.

How I built it

SpendWise was built using a combination of cutting-edge technologies and programming languages. The app's front-end was developed using modern web development tools, ensuring a user-friendly and visually appealing interface. The back-end was constructed with robust and secure frameworks to handle data storage and processing.

For the integration of Speechly, the team leveraged their APIs to enable voice-based input for expense entries. This required careful implementation of speech recognition algorithms and data validation to ensure accurate and reliable transcription of users' spoken expenses.

Challenges I ran into

During the development of SpendWise, the team faced several challenges. Integrating Speechly seamlessly with the app proved to be a technically demanding task. Ensuring that the voice recognition worked accurately and efficiently while handling various accents and speech patterns was a significant hurdle to overcome.

Additionally, optimizing the app's performance to handle a large number of transactions and generate charts in real-time without compromising on user experience presented its own set of challenges.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Despite the challenges faced, the team successfully developed SpendWise and created a product they are proud of. They are proud of building an expense tracker that simplifies financial management for users and promotes better spending habits.

The integration of Speechly was a major achievement as it significantly enhanced the user experience and set SpendWise apart from other expense tracking apps.

What I learned

Developing SpendWise was a valuable learning experience for the team. They gained in-depth knowledge of voice recognition technologies and how to implement them effectively. They also honed their skills in front-end and back-end development, data visualization, and user experience design.

The team also learned the importance of resilience and problem-solving when faced with technical challenges during the development process.
