Inspiration

We wanted to make learning American Sign Language more engaging and easy to learn by gamifying the experience.

What it does

Gamifies the learning experience of American Sign Language (ASL) by packing learning into a fast paced competitive signing battle. Players duel opponents by casting spells composed of ASL signs which help to build up their muscle memory further improving their recognition, speed, accuracy, and memory through gameplay.

How we built it

Server side infrastructure is handled by spacetime DB. Client handles processing of media pipe and other non game lobby related info.

What we learned

Build a game test environment instead of going straight for the multiplayer setup.

What's next for Spell Duel

Expanded spell lists with more complex gestures (beyond fingerspelling) and game balancing (energy meter to prevent holding combo's forever)
