Inspiration
I wanted BCI to be accessible for people in Nepal
What it does
The BCI system we made allowed people suffering from motor-neuron diseases to communicate and control electrical appliances with ERP signals
How I built it
We used commercially available EEG devices and data from the device's API to filter out specific ERPs and trained the users to interact with a software system that had options for communications and hardware control.
Challenges I ran into
Our artifact removal method had to be more efficient for prolonged use of the system.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The system was introduced in a community-based rehabilitation center that served more than 30 children suffering from cerebral palsy.
What I learned
I learned about the potential impact of this technology to help capable people suffering from motor-neuron diseases do their part in society.
What's next for Speech assistive system using BCI
I want Brain-computer interfaces to be accessible and affordable for people from all backgrounds of life.
