Inspiration
A lot of students mention how they want to create an app that'll make them rich because they're inspired from apps like Flappy Bird, a game made in less than a week but ended up being super successful. The issue is, students who share the same entrepreneur mindset give up on forming a team to create something successful because they can't find others sharing the same entrepreneur mindset, even though there's definitely more out there.
Moreover, it’s hard to combat challenges, locally and globally, without teammates. This is where SpeakIt comes in.
What it does
SpeakIt is a website that aims to promote the presence of new or upcoming entrepreneurs, helping them share their pitches, and forming teams with other members with a similar interest.
How we built it
We used simple HTML-CSS to create the website. Although it is a static one, it has the support for RestAPI and uses the springboot framework. We didn’t have enough time to integrate rest on our web application.
Challenges we ran into
50% of the team are beginners when it comes to coding and all of us are beginners when it comes to projects involving websites, so it was incredibly difficult to code such an application.
We faced multiple issues setting up a working rest service on springboot. (White label error)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we actually got to make a part of the website because all of us are beginners. Most of all, we are all proud we got this idea up and running.
What we learned
It is important to start ASAP and plan it all out. Each person should have some work to do at every point in time. We should all know what our roles are before the hackathon even begins.
We learned Html, CSS, Spring framework and rest API.
What's next for SpeakIt
We have no website building experience, however we still designed and build something. We are wondering what could we do if we actually know how to make websites. We are planning to continue this project into the future (getting the team together to learn and build the website). We are planning to use Linkedin API in the future to retrieve information and we would use We are planning on working on it.. Linkedin summary… Machine Learning to automatically add tags to pitches
