Wether you're a pro sailor in real life or a newbie, which Spatial Sail you can learn to sail and race like a pro.

Real Sailing Physics

The Spatial Sail app is a hyper realistic simulator based on actual sailing physics. It is the perfect tool for learning to sail or for perfecting your existing sailing skills. Spatial Sail can be used by individuals that are interested in sailing but also by sailing schools & sailing instructors that want to use it in their sailing courses. And it's fun: you can practice your skills in virtual regattas that follow the rules of 'real' sailing races. We offer a multi-player mode if you want to race with other player, but also a single player mode where you compete with bots.

Sailing is a challenging sport, that requires you to have a lot of knowledge and practice. With the Spatial Sail app, you can now develop your sailing skills without actually having to go on the water.

How we built it

By reverse-engineering the physics of sailing boats, we built a physics engine that is as realistic as it can get. Experienced sailors are astounded how real the VR experience is.

Challenges we ran into

Making the sailing experience as realistic as possible - but also making sure it runs smoothly on a mobile VR headset was challenging - but we made it!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Playtesting with pro sailors that approved the simulator as 'close to the real thing'. Implementing an AI sailing coach that analyses in real time what the player/sailor is doing and that gives voice instructions how to sail faster & more effective.

What we learned

That building a physics engine for VR sailing takes a lot of work - but the result is something we are proud of.

What's next for Spatial Sail

Make sail racing even more realistic & engaging by adding tactical challenges, additional sailing scenery & boat types, improving the AI sailing coach.
