Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from our own curiosity towards space in our childhood. We wanted to create a fun trivia game that would appeal to children, just like we would have loved to experienced as a kid. With some of our favorite facts, cool images, and fun videos that would foster the growth of knowledge towards space in children!
What it does
Our website is a trivia game for children, with the links to educational videos on space for children, so they can learn it, play it, and see it all in one website!
How we built it
Using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. HTML is the structure and content of our site, CSS is the styling and design, and javascript controls the interactivity on the page. We used Git to share our project so we could each collaborate, and Github to make our own changes. GitHub is a web-based platform that incorporates git’s version control features so they can be used collaboratively. We made two prototypes of our website using WIX.
Challenges we ran into
With a majority of our team members being beginner hackers, we struggled with our own roles we could play in making our website, and how we each could contribute to the project. We are thankful for the TechTogether Miami mentors for awesome resources for us to learn Git/GitHub mostly among other resources which helped us all be able to contribute to the project, as well as one of our team members taking the time to explain fully to us what they know.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are so proud of having all of our Youtube videos linked, and having most of our trivia game fully functioning! We completed so much more than we thought we could have ever done!
What we learned
We learned that if all of our team members have a willingness to collaborate and build something awesome, we can create anything! This was an awesome team to work with due to our commitment to cooperate.
What's next for Space4Kids
Our prototypes had more interactive functions and we still have a lot of more complex coding ideas to add in the future such as the ability to link a video when a trivia answer is wrong, or the ability to view each planet in its current state through a satellite, have a 3 dimensional planetary view that you can interactively find information on, so we still have a lot of plans for this website!
