Inspiration will add later

We were inspired a lot by games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, but with a space aesthetic.

What it does

It is a resource collection and settlement building cozy game set on an alien planet. The goal is to reach a certain population in your settlement by buying and upgrading utilities using resources that you find on the planet.

How we built it

We built it using the Gamemaker Studio 2 game engine and programmed it in GML (Gamemaker Language), Gamemaker Studio's own programming language derived from languages like C# and Javascript.

Challenges we ran into

We originally were using the Unity game engine to make our game, but we found it difficult and changed to Gamemaker.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We composed completely original music for our game using Muescore, and also were able to bounce back from our game engine mishap.

What we learned

We learned the usefulness of using a version control system, as well as taking time to choose the best engine/tool before going in head first with software you may not be as familiar with.

What's next for Space Colonization Game (Name not final)

We plan to add more buildings and decorations to the shop, add NPC's, and add alien animals to interact with and possibly farm, as well as alien NPC's.
