Inspiration
The plan was to build a platform to bring together like-minded folks.
What it does
It helps people, especially introverts to connect with people all over the world. Different people have different hobbies and passions. Using socialize a user can bond with other people with similar interests. There are options for online as well as in-person meetups. One can form a community and organize events. Thus people are able to make connections using socialize
How we built it
We built it using React js for the front end, Express js for the backend and MongoDB for database.
Challenges we ran into
We had some issues in managing the state of of the form with formik. We also faced some issues while interacting with the backend through the model.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create a user and events model within less time and were able to filter events based on the modes(online/in-person) and location. Also, we were able to create a login system and display a user profile where the interests of the user are displayed. We were able to build a multi-step form using formik.
What we learned
We learnt how to create a website with a login system . We had a hands on experience to work on api.
What's next for Socialize
The making of socialize web app was a great learning curve for all of us. We plan to implement a theme-based filter on all the routes. The second thing right on the list is to integrate google maps api with socialize app . The integration of google map api will be a breakthrough change to socialize the website. This will help both the participants and the organizers. We also plan to integrate google calendar api . This will be beneficial for online meetups as the meet link or zoom link can directly be added to the calendar of participants. We also plan to build a user dashboard. Through this user dashboard, the user can see all the events attended by the user and also view meetups organized by the user.
