Inspiration
From elementary school to now, our team has always been amazed by space—the planets, stars, and everything beyond. That wonder inspired us to bring the solar system to life.
What it does
Our site is an interactive model of the solar system. Each planet orbits the sun, and users can click on them to learn more using real NASA API data, and live tracking of the International Space Station for real time images
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on Visual Studio Code to create animations and design the layout. We integrated NASA’s API and the ISS API to give us real-time planetary info, and we styled everything to look like a simple but clean orbit simulation.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the planets to orbit smoothly and evenly was tricky, especially keeping everything centered. Integrating the API without breaking the visuals took some trial and error too.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that we made the solar system feel alive and accurate while keeping it fun and user-friendly. We are glad we created something our childhood selves would still enjoy and use, as well as future generations still interested in space exploration
What we learned
We learned how to balance design with code, how to use public APIs, and how to collaborate effectively under time pressure.
What's next for SolarEd
We plan on expanding SolarEd's interactive map to expand to other galaxies , notable celestial bodies, and more information about the space field.
