Inspiration
Another 40-something day, a prank-sized power bill, and our roof was still too hot to touch at sunset. One of us stared up and said, “If it’s going to be an oven, it should at least pay rent.” That moment became Solar Scout—a dead-simple way to check any address and turn wasted heat into a plan: panels when you can, plants when you can’t. Type your address, see a 0–100 Solar Score, instant cost & payback, CO₂ cuts, and—if solar’s not ideal—smart alternatives like green roofs, reflective roofs, or rainwater harvesting. It’s fast, visual, and built for action: a push-button path to lower bills and cooler streets, one rooftop at a time.
What it does
Our website, Solar Scout, uses actual data from Australian government sources to give you a personalized analysis. We consider your home's unique characteristics—like roof size and sun exposure—to give you a genuine, fact-based savings estimate.
How we built it
We built our project as a full-stack web application, using the Google Maps API for a visual, interactive experience and a powerful Google Earth Engine to process real climate data.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced was integrating the Google Maps API and Google Earth Engine effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Effectively integrating the API and the Google Earth Engine
What we learned
How to work under pressure in a team, how to integrate API's into web applications
What's next for Untitled
We see this not just as a tool, but as a catalyst for a sustainable future. The next steps are clear: we want to integrate with certified solar and green roof installers, allowing users to go from insight to installation with a single click. Integrate datasets for Google Earth Engine as well.
