Inspiration
SolarSave is a web platform designed to help homeowners understand the true benefits of switching to solar energy. Inspired by the need for simple and transparent tools in the renewable energy space, SolarSave shows users how much they could save on electricity bills, their estimated CO₂ offset, and the environmental impact of adding solar panels.
What It Does
Users can either enter their location or use live GPS to get personalized results. SolarSave calculates potential savings, environmental benefits, and provides an accessible way to visualize the positive impact of going solar.
How We Built It
We built the project using React.js for the frontend and Node.js with Express for the backend. We integrated the NREL Solar Resource API and OpenCage Geocoding API to power our data-driven insights.
Challenges We Ran Into
Along the way, we tackled challenges like real-time geolocation handling, managing API quotas, and creating an intuitive user experience with smooth animations and interactive responses.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
SolarSave empowers users to see how clean energy can positively impact both their finances and the planet. We used React & Node.js for the first time, along with JavaScript and learned a lot along the way.
