Inspiration
Thinking about the prompt, we considered several already existing platforms that help students connect with companies like Handshake, Indeed, and Glassdoor. While talking, we discovered that one of our teammates actually found this Hackathon through TikTok while randomly scrolling for entertainment. We realized that the current short-video media platforms are extremely effective at not only reaching out to the population but also keeping users engaged. We then had an idea to develop a platform that borrows aspects of the entertainment media and professional websites. Thus, Sofit was born.
What it does
Sofit allows companies to create engaging short form video content to showcase opportunities within their companies to rising talent. Students using the platform can develop their own professional profile by including a video resume and uploading their personal profile.Through this app, we can match students and companies with roles and talents that best fit their interests. In addition, our platform helps students find valuable mentorship opportunities and allow companies to effectively empower and help students in their career development.
How we built it
We used wireframe.cc to create an outline of our application, then we used AdobeXD to create a mockup.
Challenges we ran into
We spent too much time discussing potential ideas and the problems that we might run into. This caused us to be at a time disadvantage and made it harder for us to build an actual minimum viable product (MVP) that involved code. Another issue we ran into was debating on whether to monetize this app or not and ways we could monetize the app and attracting potential users if we wanted to go down that path.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
There are two accomplishments that we’re proud of for this hackathon competition. The first of which is coming up with a unique solution to the problem that was presented to us in a short period of time. The second of which is our wireframe and how well developed it was in terms of showcasing everything we want the user to see.
What we learned
One thing that we learned is being creative by considering not just our technical expertise but our daily lives. We built the platform prototype by discussing current trends familiar to one person that others might not have known. Doing so we learned to brainstorm ideas and help build off of each other's ideas. We also learned how to incorporate data research into developing and validating our prototype features.
What's next for Sofit
Unfortunately 24 hours was only enough for us to design a prototype and not a product. The next step for Sofit is a proof of concept (PoC) that will include the main user interface and some of the features described in the prototype. The PoC might lead to a potential demo that can be tested locally.
People get on our app, Successfully use it, then what?
In the future, we want to retain users by Short Form Courses, Event/Training Sessions, Enterprise Opportunities, and Accurate Compensation.
