Inspiration

Being locked into our homes for the greater parts of the last year, one of the greatest aspects that's been missing from our lives is the ability to go out to a local hotspot and connect with members of our respective communities. We thought it would be great to develop an application that allows users to compare interests with other users and have quick and easy access to their social media accounts so they can connect.

What it does

On Socia-fy, you create an account, select from a list of interests, and add all your social media profiles to your account. Your interests will be publicly displayed to other users so they can choose to add you to their accounts. Once you're added to an account, that user will have access to all of your social media accounts so they can follow you and connect! On your end, you will be able to see users within your area and choose to connect with them as well.

How we built it

The project was built entirely in React using libraries such as Bootstrap and Material-UI. Due to time constraints and lack of experience, only the front-end components were created. These components were built in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

As both of us are fairly inexperienced with the three languages mentioned above, getting the proper format on each of our three pages (Log in, Sign up, and Main) was a difficult task. Additionally, neither of us have backend experience so we were not able to implement any of the actual functionality we desired or brainstormed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Due to our lack of prior experience with frontend development, we're both very proud of our ability to learn React within a day and implement the features we were able to get to.

What we learned

Since this was our first time using React, that was the biggest learning experience taken away from this hackathon. In addition, we were able to refine our knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also learned how to effectively collaborate using Git through different IDEs.

What's next for Socia-fy

Learning how to work the backend and actually implement the "Add Friend" feature would be the first thing on our list. Following this, we would like to refine the pages we have set up and add more ways for users to add their interests and build more intricate profiles. There are many more backend features we would like to add, but we would start here and expand.
