Inspiration
Snack Bandits was inspired by the chaotic charm of raccoons — the ultimate snack thieves. I wanted to capture that energy and turn it into a fast, funny, and competitive mobile-friendly experience in Meta Horizon Worlds. The goal was to make something simple, instantly funny, and endlessly replay able.
What it does
Players become raccoon bandits in a park full of snacks, fountains, and patrolling rangers. The mission is to grab a snack, dip it in the fountain, and stash it for points while avoiding Sgt. Snackwell and Deputy Crumbly. Players can drink Zoom Juice for a short speed boost and climb the “Most Wanted Snack Bandit” leaderboard. Every session adds to their Lifetime Bandit Score.
How we built it
Snack Bandits was created in the Meta Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor with help from Meta Horizon GenAI for environment design, skybox, 3D models, and sound. I used Horizon’s TypeScript-based scripting to handle snack collection, scoring, ranger patrols, and UI overlays. All art and UI were built to be bright, readable, and mobile-friendly.
Challenges we ran into
Scaling items correctly when attaching to players, syncing ranger patrols across devices, and optimizing for mobile performance were major challenges. Custom UIs are still challenging to me since I am not that experienced creating them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of creating a fully playable, funny, and polished mobile-friendly world that blends humor with competition. The sound design, UI, and leaderboard systems make it feel like a full arcade experience inside Horizon.
What we learned
I learned how to use Meta’s GenAI tools to accelerate creation while keeping a custom style. I also improved at balancing visual clarity, responsiveness, and performance for mobile play.
What's next for Snack Bandits
Next, I plan to add unlockable raccoon heads, cosmetics, and themed events tied to player Lifetime Bandit Scores. Snack Bandits will continue to grow with more rewards, laughs, and plenty of snacks to steal.
