SmilingFriendBot (beachhacks)

Inspiration -

Our inspiration was from reddit and its users. We saw a lot of communities that needed cheering up and decided to make a bot that can help change the atmosphere.

What it does -

It is a bot that goes through reddit posts and subreddits and then detects “sad” keywords. It then comments or replies to the post with a Youtube music video that can help brighten up the day.

How we built it -

We built this program using a reddit account we made and the Redditor API which allowed us to create a comment bot.

Challenges we ran into -

We initially thought our idea was too simple and so we tried to reply to the redditors comment with a gif containing their reddit username however this required learning about google drives API and it was very hard to implement so we went with the original idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of -

We were proud of being able to create something from scratch for our first hackathon! We went through many struggles to complete our final product, and we’re proud that we can gain more experience from this event!
