Inspiration
Movies have fixed a technological fantasy in our minds over the years that a day will come when technology will be used to identify individuals by their faces. A time when our ID cards will indeed be our faces. With the advancement of technology for facial recognition, the time already has come.
What it does
Upon going up to the airport, check-in with the authorities, and your face will be learning by SMEYES. It becomes your ID card within the airport for more security and also make your life at the airport not become miserable. It helps you to use the services at the airport more secure (drop-off bag or board a flight). The application will identify your face to make sure that nobody stealing your identification.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React Native for our website where the users can upload their faces into our server. The React Native made our product easily accessible to people.
The backend was used by Python for its efficient machine learning library and quick run-time.
Challenges we ran into
We were struggling applied machine learning in live video. We solved it by processing the frame of the video. Running Python script in backend powered by node.js First time using react for front-end and upload files from front to back-end
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time being together as a team working on a project, we managed to stick together to the very end. Not only that, everyone fantastically finished their tasks and we were able to have a completed product ready to be used.
What we learned
Being part of a team help each one of us learn a lot. Not only we were able to gain new knowledge from working with each other, but also how to coordinate as a team. Everyone knows the purpose of the direction the team is going in, and the reason that their part in it is critical in achieving that end. We discuss the strengths, motivators, and behaviors of the individual team members to enhance our collaboration. We have a great team leader that always makes it absolutely clear what each person's responsibility is, and then discuss the flow of the project from person to person. From that we now have an idea of how to go through a software development process by connecting back-end and front-end.
What's next for SMEYES ( Smart Eyes)
We are always looking for new challenges. Next, we're looking to make the technology to another level where it can detect unique angles of individual faces and from then being able to recognize faces even under cloth masks.
