Inspiration

The modern workplace is evolving rapidly, and we wanted to create a system that leverages AI and IoT to enhance productivity and comfort in office spaces. We were inspired by the idea of creating dynamic workspaces that adapt to individual preferences in real-time, making environments more efficient and conducive to focus, while also optimizing energy usage.

What it does

IntelliDesk Systems uses AI and IoT technology to monitor and adjust key environmental factors like lighting and temperature in real-time. Sensors collect data on factors like time of day, weather, inside temperature, and light preferences. This data is sent to our AI system, which processes it to deliver the optimal settings for each workspace, ensuring maximum comfort and productivity. The system dynamically responds to changes and personalizes workspaces on the fly.

How we built it

We built IntelliDesk Systems using a combination of Azure AI services and IoT devices. The main components include:

Azure Machine Learning: To train the models for predicting optimal lighting and temperature settings based on real-time data. Azure Functions: To handle the backend processing and communicate between the IoT sensors and the AI models. Azure IoT Hub: To manage the IoT device data flow from the workspace to the cloud for processing. Azure Databricks: For scalable data management and model training. Streamlit: To build the user interface and visualize the results. IoT sensors: To capture environmental data and relay it to our cloud-based system. We used Azure’s end-to-end capabilities to seamlessly integrate AI, data, and IoT. Challenges we ran into One of the key challenges was integrating multiple Azure services, such as Azure Machine Learning and IoT Hub, to ensure real-time data processing. We also had to carefully balance user experience with performance, making sure that predictions were delivered quickly and accurately. Additionally, creating animations and visualizing real-time data transfer while ensuring proper placement was a technical hurdle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a fully functional smart workspace solution that responds dynamically to user preferences. The seamless integration of AI predictions and real-time IoT sensor data is a major achievement. Furthermore, we were able to optimize the model using Azure Automated Machine Learning to provide high accuracy in predictions.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we gained a deep understanding of working with Azure’s AI and IoT services. We learned how to optimize data pipelines, handle large datasets, and build real-time responsive systems. Additionally, we improved our skills in integrating Azure Functions with machine learning models and IoT devices, and in creating a user-friendly frontend that visualizes data interactions.

What's next for IntelliDesk Systems

Next, we plan to scale IntelliDesk Systems for larger office spaces and include more environmental factors, such as air quality. We also aim to integrate more advanced machine learning models, making use of Azure Cognitive Services for deeper insights and predictive analytics. Further, we plan to explore automated energy-saving features to help companies reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining optimal workspace environments.
