SmartSafe Interview

Inspiration 🧠

Ever since women have entered the workforce, sexism and harassment have prevented them from breaking the glass ceiling. There are many ways that sexual harassment could happen especially during a job interview. You could be subjected to lewd and sexually inappropriate comments or get asked inappropriate questions during the interview.

In 2020, one in four or 25% of women reported having personally experienced inappropriate sexualized behaviors in their workplace

Sexual harassment is never acceptable, and if you are a victim of sexual harassment during a job interview, odds are that others have suffered from the same treatment and you reporting the incident could help keep others from suffering the same situation.

What it does 💻

SmartSafe Interview is a google extension where employee candidates can record the interview process automatically. After the interview is complete, we will provide you with a machine learning processed report of your interview containing the full transcript, use of censored words, number of potentially inappropriate phrases, and number of inappropriate questions asked by the interviewer.

With this extension, you can identify if the company provides a safe environment and equality for everyone. Also, you can speak up to the public to help keep others from suffering the same situation because you have supporting evidence and documentation that prove what happened, how it happened, and how you responded during the interview.

We also created a chatbot that can automatically answer your questions regarding sexual harassment in the workplace.

Our goal is that we want to make the employment process an inclusive space that respects everyone.

How we built it 🔨

For making the chrome extension part, we used HTML CSS for the layout, and javascript for its logic.
For making our Machine learning model, we used sklearn library which trained the model over a dataset regarding gender discriminatory phrases.
For making the chatbot, we used Google Cloud's Dialogflow

Challenges we ran into 🤯

Extension was the toughest part to get along with, we struggled a bit with getting things to work like audio permissions and referring to ml model and showing results.
Creating the chatbot that responds based on the user question.
Completing the project well in time <3

Accomplishments that we're proud of 💪

Managing tasks among members.
Finishing the project only in 24 hours despite timezone differences.
Always communicating and discussing during the hackathon.
Finishing this hackathon with maximum result in a limited time

What we learned ✍

This whole hackathon was a proper brain exercise, we must say. From generating idea till the last point of submitting final project, we learnt a lot throughout this journey.
We learnt about the topic to come up with unique ideas to solve problems that women face when looking for jobs. Also, we learned about how to create a google extension which we have never tried to make before, and the same with dialogflow.

What's next for SmartSafe Interview ⏭

We will approach communities that are engaged in female empowerment so that they can socialize this application and introduce it to women out there so that they avoid harassment when looking for jobs. Also, we will take feedback from the community to improve our application.
