Inspiration

Recycling is confusing, causing contamination and landfill waste. This project aims to make sorting easier and more accurate.

What it does

User can take a picture of an object using a camera and AI will be used to identify the type of waste it is, or the user can alternatively upload a photo either to the app or the website.

How we built it

With the help of AI and our understanding of cloud computing we were able to create a website and an app which analyzes waste for effective sorting

Challenges we ran into

Numerous bugs on Android studio, varying local recycling rules, and designing the user interface.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built an app on android that incorporates all the elements we desired. User-friendly mobile interface, Integration with Gemini AI, and Location-based guidelines

What we learned

This project taught us about AI's potential in waste management and the need for user-friendly design.

What's next for Smart Sort

We plan to improve AI accuracy and integrate with local recycling services and possible map and location integration.
