Inspiration

Blind individuals face challenges in navigating crowded and unfamiliar places. The idea behind Smart Echo Navigator is to provide real-time audio feedback, allowing them to move safely and independently. Inspired by echolocation used by bats and dolphins, we wanted to create a system that translates the surrounding environment into meaningful sound cues.

What it does

Smart Echo Navigator detects obstacles like people, objects, and buses in front of the user and provides real-time voice alerts. Using computer vision and deep learning, it identifies obstacles and notifies the user through audio feedback, helping them navigate safely.

How we built it

We used: Python for programming OpenCV for image processing YOLO (You Only Look Once) / SSD for real-time object detection Neural Networks to classify and detect objects NumPy & Pandas for data handling Text-to-Speech (TTS) libraries like Google Text-to-Speech or pyttsx3 for audio output Microcontrollers & Sensors (optional) if integrated with wearable devices Raspberry Pi / Jetson Nano for running the model on edge devices

Challenges we ran into

Optimizing real-time object detection for speed and accuracy Ensuring the system works well in different lighting conditions Making audio feedback intuitive and not overwhelming for users Handling background noise interference for clear alerts Managing hardware limitations when deploying on a portable device
