Inspiration

Living in Chicago as a UIC student, many times we would eat, visit, buy, etc at the same old large cooperations. This hindered what we were able to see and experience so we decided to make something that could help give more attention to the ones we weren't able to go to.

What it does

Gets the small businesses around campus and lets you know what and where to go to. It has personalized ratings which is only through college students and not other areas. People can write reviews that is public for other people to see and help students sway their decision to come to the establishment or help the business grow by learning from mistakes.

How we built it

We used React and FireBase for our IDE and Database respectively. By spreading out different parts of the overall project through GitHub branch features, we were able to cooperate and work on our areas without disrupting our teammates.

Challenges we ran into

Coming up with the idea and deciding what frameworks we should use, Who does what, etc are some basic ones some groups go through. 1 major challenge was the GitHub branches to main and main to branches process, as it took a while for us to all get accustomed to it being clean when sometimes we would work on the same file and make it a mess for everyone involved, thankfully we were able to push forward and communicate better on whos pushing/pulling.

What we learned

We learned more on how to use Git and it's many features alongside refreshing and implementing new concepts like React and FireBase.

What's next for Slide

Fine tune certain areas for max User enjoyment and expand the smaller businesses from just near UIC to potentially other schools as well.
