Inspiration
This project was inspired by our love of Halloween and all things Scary! We also love platformer games such as Mario.
What it does
The player starts the game as Skully, a Skeleton who recently lost his head to Vladimir the Head Hunter. He is on a mission to defeat his henchmen and retrieve his head, whilst along the way collecting new heads and gaining special powers. The player can use movement keys to move left and right, as well as jump. Furthermore, using preset hotkeys, the user can swap between different abilities as they are playing.
How we built it
We used the game engine Godot, and wrote the code out in GDScript. We used CCO sprites found online as well to build a relevant unique landscape.
Challenges we ran into
Learning to navigate Godot, writing code in GDScript and editing and laying out sprites were all new for the entire team. We used plenty of online resources, as well as prior computer science knowledge to solve the challenges we faced along the way. One major obstacle we ran into was making sure our player effectively attack the enemies whilst dealing damage and not losing health on the players end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a fluid movement system as well as customer animations.
What we learned
How to build and layout the basic functions and items for game development. We learned that games are divided into scenes and we use many different elements known as nodes to affect gameplay.
What's next for Skull Search
Fixing a lot of the major bugs, adding a Vladimir the Head Hunter Boss Fight, and adding a multitude of abilities we had initially planned on including
Built With
