Inspiration
We as high schoolers understand the stress when it comes to deciding a career path for the future. Thinking of a life path can be a daunting task, for there are many variables left to think about and evaluate. We wished to create something that would give students and overwhelmed teens a chance to research and figure out what they want to do in life.
What it does
Our website includes pages such as Interview Prep, which is a page dedicated to helping teens and young adults get used to common interview questions. Practicing with these allows them to familiarize themselves with this environment, making way for more successful interviews. Another page is the Career Specialists page, where we decided to include some videos on common careers found in various fields, such as business or medical etc. We wanted to make it as less intimidating as possible, so we opted for “A Day in my Life as a…” type videos, giving users a real-world example of such experiences. Along with this, we have a quiz where it suggests a career based on your responses to a few questions. Finally, we have the News page, a place where you can find the latest news updates in those same fields; some which may catch your eye!
How we built it
We built it using HTML, CSS, and Javascript on Replit.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge we ran into was Replit not working. Apart from this, we had some trouble coming up with and deciding on an idea that fit everyone’s capabilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the quiz we made and the career specialist page. This is because both pages are dedicated to helping show students how each career functions so they find the best fit!
What we learned
We learned how to optimize website interaction with the users, allowing them to get a more personalized touch from using it.
What's next for SkillSync
We want to expand on the quiz portion of our website. We also want to include more resources for students to better their chances of finding the perfect career match.
