inspiration
I was inspired by the struggle young people face when starting volunteer work, to gain hands-on experience In a skill they choose. I wanted to simplify this process, making it rewarding for both volunteers and communities.
What it does
SkillSync matches volunteers with opportunities that align with their skills and interests, using AI to streamline the process and enhance community engagement.
How we built it
We developed SkillSync using NextJs, React, PostgreSQL, Prsima ORM, TailwindCSS, Scss, Framer Motion, Clerk, and best of all Cohere AI technology, focusing on a user-friendly interface that leverages semantic searching to personalize volunteer matches.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating Cohere's AI smoothly and ensuring the platform was intuitive for users of all ages were significant hurdles. Balancing simplicity with functionality was key. Additionally, the sheer size of the project in the given period, made it difficult at times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of creating a platform that not only makes volunteering accessible but also encourages skill development and community growth. I am proud of being able to have fully functional production-level code in just 24 hours.
What we learned
I learned about the complexities of matching algorithms and the importance of user experience in platform design. Understanding user needs was crucial.
What's next for SkillSync Volunteer
We plan to expand our reach, add more features for skill tracking and development, and strengthen our AI to offer even more personalized volunteering opportunities.
