Inspiration
We noticed that many people have valuable skills but cannot afford the services they need. Existing gig platforms are money-driven and exclude those without cash. We wanted to create a fair system where skills, not money, become the currency.
What it does
SkillLink is a community skill exchange platform where people trade services using time credits. 1 hour of any service = 1 credit. Credits can be used to request other services from the community. This builds a circular, inclusive economy where everyone’s time is valued equally.
How we built it
Designed the workflow for skill listings, matching, and time-credit wallets. Built a pitch deck showcasing how users can offer a skill, earn credits, and redeem them for other services. Integrated features like trust verification, reviews, and an accessible mobile-first design.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a fair credit system that values all skills equally. Ensuring trust and safety between community members. Making the platform inclusive for people with low digital literacy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a unique alternative economy model centered on time, not money. Building a prototype that demonstrates real community impact potential. Crafting a solution that strengthens trust, inclusion, and resilience in communities.
What we learned
Social good solutions need to balance simplicity and inclusivity. Building community trust is as important as building the tech itself. People are more willing to help when they see their time has tangible value.
What's next for SkillLink
Try to build it as a working app.
