Inspiration
Before entering Northeastern University, I was a master student at NYU, following my passion about bringing technologies into people’s life and took a big step to change my major from Nano Engineering to Computer Science during the Master school application. I received my offer from NEU and became a Computer Science master student in Silicon Valley. My story began with my back and forth moving experience between the East and West coast. Due to the transferring between institutions, I moved three times over the period of nine months. Sounds a little extreme? It really was. And I'm not the only one here. When my moving boxes were delivered, it meant a long and heavy housework was dropped by the door as well. I've noticed that many students, including me, have struggled with post-moving unboxing and the full-house organization process for weeks, even months after moving from one place to another. Moving itself is exhausting enough, but we can't rest when we arrive at the destination facing a pile of stuff in a completely empty apartment. However, most of students are not able to stay at home all day long for the tedious and time-consuming housework, because of job, school, social events, etc. In order to relive burden that we have to stay with opened boxes, the concept is about helping more students that have limited time and ability to organize their home which can turn the heavy boxes into a fully equipped apartment in hours.
What it does
Our project is a two-sided platform that connects customers with professional workers based on their locations and customers can schedule organization services online before their move-in date. The AI house planning feature can let customers plan on the website by dragging the image of the furniture around the house based on the apartment's floor plan. This could be an instruction or guide provided to workers later during their work. With trust and safety agreement applied to customers with each order summary, the whole house organization process will be further protected and guaranteed to improve the customer's experience of using this platform.
How we built it
I've built a prototype that interacts with user's input to adjust the floor plan layout based on the uploaded furniture data.
Challenges we ran into
Solve different aspects of function realization aligning with user experience. Disagreement on which tool to use for the technical realization.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a runnable framework displaying the key functions and innovations for the platform.
What we learned
The project idea never stays solid but changes with the technical development.
What's next for Single Well
Create MVP and initiates the first round product testing to get user feedback based on NEU campus and modify the project based on the user experience.
