Inspiration
We notice a lot of companies promoting job offers on social media and getting barely any responses. Yet, we also notice that the rate of unemployment in Indonesia is still pretty high. So, there must be a missing piece of the puzzle that prevents people who are desperate for jobs from getting them. Then, we realized that the two can simultaneously exist because of a lack of connections. People just aren't aware of available job offers and employers don't know how to reach a large range of people. Hence, we came up with a website to not only connect these two parties but also to match them up so they could find their optimal work partners.
What it does
Sigma is a website with two main functions. One is to match people up using an algorithm to find the best compatible match. Just like tinder, both parties are able to either decline or accept each other until a match is found. The second main function is to act as a means of communication. Not only do we bring people together, but we also help them communicate and build connections with each other.
How we built it
We used a combination of Javascript, HTML, and CSS to create a website that could serve as a demo of what the final product could be. We used Replit.com to collaborate and write files together in real time, and we used JSON to store and read data files.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of time, and a lack of experience in UI/UX design. We tried our best with what we had but as our members are completely inexperienced in UI/UX design, we had a lot of trouble figuring out what we had to do.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was the first proper project we've worked on, and design stuff aside a lot of the intended functions of our site actually works. This is something we were quite surprised about and definitely gave us a boost of motivation in our hackathon.
What we learned
We learned a lot more about coding, about how to put together projects, and how to manage our time and more importantly our team. To delegate tasks and to work together so we could accomplish more in that limited amount of time.
