Inspiration

The rise of platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts has shown that short-form video content is becoming increasingly popular. However, creators often struggle to produce engaging content due to the time required in the editing process. We were inspired to create ShortForm to help creators easily cut clips from their long-form content and increase engagement on various social media platforms.

What it does

ShortForm is a web application that allows creators to upload a youtube link to their long-form videos and cut them into short, engaging clips. The clips can then be shared on various social media platforms to increase engagement and reach a wider audience.

How we built it

We built ShortForm using a combination of technologies, including React, Next.js, GPT and FireBase. The application is hosted on Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

One of the significant challenges we encountered during the development of ShortForm was hosting the application. We had to ensure that the application was hosted on a reliable platform that could handle multiple users accessing the site simultaneously, this is still ann issue. Additionally, we had to ensure that the hosting solution was scalable to accommodate the growing user base. Despite these challenges, we were able to find a suitable hosting solution on Vercel and optimized the application for performance and scalability.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of developing a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for creators to cut clips from their long-form videos. We also implemented a graph to help creators spot interesting moments over time.

What we learned

During the development process, we learned a lot about video processing and the challenges associated with it. We also learned how to optimize the application for scalability and performance.

What's next for ShortForm

In the future, we plan to add more features to ShortForm, including the ability to add captions and subtitles to clips. We also want to integrate with more social media platforms to make it even easier for creators to share their content. Additionally, we plan to explore monetization options for the application.
