Inspiration

I have had eczema since I was a young girl and it has affected my social and personal life a lot. Whenever I have an eczema flare-up, I look for excuses to not go to school or be around friends. I usually get eczema flare-ups on my face. I wanted to build something to help the millions of people out there who deal with eczema, because there isn't a definitive solution for the condition yet. Additionally, this website will educate everyone about eczema.

What It Does

Personally, participating in exercise is hard for me due to sweat making me itchy and causing flare-ups. Shine is a one-stop shop website for people who deal with eczema on a day-to-day basis. It has a Home tab, an Environment tab to display current weather statistics relevant to eczema patients, a Flare-Ups tab to keep track of past skin inflammation reactions, an Exercise tab for predicting if a user will receive a flare-up during exercise, a Connections tab to access local resources and chat with other users, and a Login/Sign Up feature.

How I Built It

I built the website using Flask and HTML templates.

Challenges I Ran Into

Transferring information from HTML files to Python files or vice versa was difficult, but I was able to figure it out. Additionally, the positioning of HTML elements on the page caused some problems for me.

Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of

I built this by myself in a week! I hope that users will use the platform's personalized data for making healthy and impactful decisions in their lives.

What I learned

I learned how to code in HTML and use Flask.

What's Next For Shine

Currently, Shine is a website that is run locally, but in the future I would like to have it on the web and accessible to anyone who needs it. Additionally, the website could be integrated into the National Eczema Association website for easy searchability and downloadability.
