What does sheNetwork do for you?
Imagine you’re a young woman who is looking for mentorship yet have little experience. Intimidated by industry she would head over to our solution to be able to :
- register with no career background needed
- fill out her interests
- get matched with professionals with similar interests
- be able to reach put and start mentorship with matched professionals.
Inspiration
The challenges inspired the team to look into the psychological aspect of mentoring and how mentorship can be achieved. When looking at research done by APA publishers the team was fascinated with the importance of having a female role model when a female is looking to grow in their career.
Crafting user story
Our team was invested into learning from a few young females what it might feel like for them to try and find a mentor.
After a few quick interview sessions with junior software developers, designers, data scientists we have found that reaching out to a future mentor and setting the expectations is one of the most challenging things to practice for.
Team dynamics and process
Once agreed on the scope, team effort and the technology, the team branched off to building the backend, designing the front end, developing the front end.
Scoping down
Internal mentorship was the priority fro our team, Mariel took time to guide Mairi though her first time developing fro a web application!
What we have accomplished in 10 hours of design and developemnt (because we had to network too!):
- our team mate Mairi touch web stuff the first time and made a great process!
- brainstormed and landed on a fabulous idea
- designed a prototype
- developed 100% functioning 50% of the scope!
That’s a wrap!
Though joyful collaboration we are proud to build a prototype and present forward looking prototype with more features the team could have build, had we had more time!
The tech stack
- We built and express.js server and used EJS templating
- We chose EJS templating because one of our members was a beginner in terms of coding
- Our data is hosted on MongoDB, where we stored our user data
- Our assets are hosted on Cloudinary.com so that they are accessible whether or not the app 5. is directly connected to the repository
- We used heroku to host our web app because it is one of the only free options to host full stack applications
Yet this is not the end!
We are looking forward to testing our hypothesis with users and dedicating proper time for rest this time. here is a list of a few areas of development:
- Developing mobile application
- Using react for web development
- Testing hypothesis with users
- Looking into ways to monetize this solution
Thanks so much! SheHacks was lots of fun!
