INSPIRATION:

We came to know about Shark Hacks from MLH website. It seemed an interesting challenge as it dealt with a species of animal that is endangered but somehow does not get that much attention. Sharks are most of the time shown as the antagonist in several movies. We also wanted to change this perspective and create something that would show "sharks" as a protagonist. And not to forget the beautiful and cute blahaj.

WHAT IT DOES:

The website is primarily themed on sharks and how we can save them. It is based on a "play" theme with a number of mini-games including select the cards and a maths quiz. Furthermore, there is a page dedicated to information regarding the dangers that sharks today are facing and how we can help them.

HOW WE BUILT IT:

The entire website is primarily based on HTML, CSS, and Javascript, with some parts using Node.js. We have also used bootstrap to stylize our website and have hosted it using firebase and heroku.

CHALLENGES WE RAN INTO:

Gathering authentic information was the first challenge. Along with that being new to web development, it took us some time to figure out the logic behind the games. Also, Node.js was not that known, but with help of the internet, we managed it.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS WE ARE PROUD OF:

The first accomplishment is that we are submitting our first MLH hackathon project. Also, we were able to get somewhat the desired we wanted.

WHAT WE LEARNED:

We learned a lot more about sharks and blahaj. On the part of technology, we learned using node.js.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR SHARKOSLAC:

The first task we plan is to make the site responsive. Along with that, we plan to make the multiplayer game a real-time one. And also include means to incorporate the latest information regarding the saving of sharks around the world.
