Inspiration
I was inspired by a fundraiser hosted at my school where students donated food to a local food bank and I decided to do something somewhat similar. During my research, I found out that American farmers often make more food than we need so which gave me the idea to have farmers donate their extra food.
What it does
I created a website that will connect users to food donation centers nearby that will then distribute food to other food banks around the world to help fight against hunger. Users enter their names, select the item they want to donate, and lastly enter their location to be connected with a nearby donation center,
How we built it
I used CSS, HTML, and Javascript to create my website.
Challenges we ran into
I struggled with getting the buttons to function on the site. I wanted to incorporate AI that given the user's location, could find a nearby food donation center but I did not know how to implement the AI into my website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Since it was my first time making a website, I am proud that I was able to code the color-changing background corresponding to the vegetable chosen. I am proud that I created most of what I planned to do.
What we learned
I learned more about several global problems that millions of people are facing around the world and how technology could be used to help. I also learned about HTML and web development such as how to create buttons and text boxes on a website.
What's next for Sharing is Caring
In the future, Sharing is Caring could help distribute other resources such as school supplies, clothes, and medical aid to people around the world.
