Inspiration
We want to build an extension that does something cool. At first, we want to build a youtube extension to allow you to preview a video and its full length without having to open it, but then we realise Youtube uses a js script to create send new element inside tag which override our extension. So, we decide to make something funny instead and we come up with Shakespearified.
What it does
It basically changes all the text from a website that you visit to make it look like it came out of a Shakespeare play. It is quite entertaining especially if you want to look at rude comments online. Hard to get mad at a person who is cursing others in Shakespeare's language.
How I built it
Challenges we ran into
Most of the challenges we ran into were during the process of making the Youtube extension, which we learn that Youtube did this purposefully so it can protect its revenue stream (Kudo to Youtube.) Other than that, the main pain point is to create a library for all the word to be detected and convert into Shakespeare's language.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Well the extension works, although not on a private chat web application, and it is also not very safe to do so anyway.
What we learned
Extension is a whole new world to Web app in and off itself. We managed to brainstorm and implement many different ways to figure out the extensions we worked on, even though we did not complete the youtube extension.
What's next for Shakespearified
Maybe improving the library and build an AI to make the sentence even more native to Shakespeare play?
