Inspiration
Our project was inspired by the current state of the world and how the internet reflects it. The media tends to focus on teenagers who get stuck "doom scrolling" on their phones. However, it fails to recognize that "doom scrolling" is also a serious issue for people of all ages, including seniors. Very commonly do seniors fall into the trap that is the internet, and many fail to recognize this. Our app provides a way to acknowledge the dangers of being sedentary and introverted, pushing these dangers and providing solutions to overcome them.
What it does
Our app provides a way for seniors to input their health data, receive their statistics and what they could be in danger of, and then provide a way for them to solve it - not only by themselves but with those who suffer from the same issue.
How we built it
We initially considered making an android app, but we settled on making a website using HTML, JS, and CSS with Python for the back end using Flask.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges during this hackathon. We had little to no experience on front end, so we had to figure out how to efficiently and creatively produce a front-end product. We also had difficulties with saving user information and creating cookies on the back end, so that the user data saves between pages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of is our front-end. Although it isn't the greatest, we still managed to produce a decent front-end product despite not having any prior experience.
What we learned
We learned that during a hackathon, it is imperative that everyone is assigned their own roles. This time, we assigned roles to each other and were able to finish in a very good amount of time.
What's next for Seniors Steps
We have ideas on converting Senior Steps into an android app so it will be more accessible to the wide populus of seniors around the world.
