As three students at NYU, our formal education has only taught us how to manage our academic course load but not how to navigate the corporate world. We were not accustomed to interning and interviewing and hoped we had a tool that could help us early on in the process.

Hence we came up with Intify.AI which utilizes Int, our AI-powered interviewing coach, that helps personalize the career growth journey. The ultimate goal to help the student balance school and word, but more importantly feel confident and secure before a technical or behavioral interview.

User-Research As designers, we sought a broader understanding by conducting a survey that received 52 responses within 4 hours. This helped identify pain points, which Intify addresses.

The Top Pain Points:

  • Lack of feedback
  • Frequent use of filler words
  • Difficulty in preventing rambling
  • Finding interview questions
  • Starting the interview preparation process

Competitive Analysis We investigated existing products such as Google Interview Prep, LinkedinLearning, and Coaching Service, revealing a need for more resources and feedback to assist students in improving their interviewing skills. (chart linked in presentation)

User Persona Following user research and competitive analysis, we developed two user personas to guide userflows:

Persona 1: Andrea Chang

  • Junior looking for SWE summer internships
  • Difficulty finding resources and getting feedback to prepare for interviews
  • Struggles to articulate her thought process in a clear, concise manner during high-pressure technical interviews

Persona 2: Collin Torres

  • Freshmen Finance student with a beginners understanding of financial markets, corporate finance, and investment strategies (but lots of interest)
  • Struggles to effectively communicate soft skills and experience to interviewer
  • Wants to better market his analytical skills and financial knowledge

Userflows

We separated our user flows (look at presentation slides or media photos) into onboarding and mock interview prep/recording.

Prototyping Onboarding + Homescreen Experience: The onboarding experience is a crucial step in the user-flow because it assists Int in tailoring the prep experience. Selecting the specific field, students will have personalized questions typically found in that industry. Using the user’s goals, struggles, and year level, it can help Int determine blocks in student’s schedules on when to practice interview questions. Ultimately showing the steps into career growth in their specific field.

The app is designed with the user's best interests in mind and can be used by post-professionals as well. Our home-screen utilizes a bright color scheme to help engage the user. Easily add in an upcoming interview date so Int can help curate the prep. This home screen is built for a SWE student, but for example a finance student would have different personalized questions. The quick question tab mostly text-input questions meant to be done on commutes or in between breaks. For whenever it is convenient for the student.

Mock Interview (Behavioral) Through our mock interview, students can practice interview questions and receive personalized feedback from Int, our smart AI coach. Our app simulates realistic interview environment and curated questions based on the users’ field and focus. Students can choose to practice either a behavioral interview or technical interview.

In a behavioral interview, students get matched to an AI interview coach. Our coach asks common interview questions and a recording of you answering the question is saved. Once you finish answer your interview, Int will analyze your answers and give you feedback on the following categories: communicate, attitude, body language, keywords, and experience. You will be recommended resources based on your performance. You can also review your answers and Int will give you a thorough breakdown of your performance, keywords used, areas of improvements, and sample answers. We will highlight key moments in your video and give you feedback—even about your speech and body language.

Technical Questions In the technical questions, for this example for a SWE, you’ll be provided a challenge and be asked to walk through your code and thinking process.

Once you hit record, you’ll have a set time limit to type of your code on either your laptop or phone. Once done, you can use your phone to take a picture of the code or paste in your answer, then Int will begin analyzing the screen. After Int is done analyzing it’ll show the technical aspects of your code, areas of strengths and weakness, and then the user can also tap into the recording to look into the area breakdowns—similar to the mock interviews.

Progress + Resources

Student can save both the behavioral and technical interviews into the progress tab. The user can see their current stats or use the drag bar to look at their past history and current growth. Or look into specific past practice sessions and Int also has recommended studying sources Lastly, Int will also provide a screen full of resources to help aid in general interviewing tip or looking into specific companies.

Challenges

One of the challenges we faced was adapting to a new software, Mockflow, but we were pleasantly surprised that it streamlined our research and organization process. Another challenge we faced was actually our color scheme, because we started with going immediately into wire-framing and userflows. The color scheme was a low priority so we chose some muted colors, but during A/B testing a friend of ours said it looks more “medical” rather than “career-focused.” With this feedback, we decided to go for more bright colors that motivate the user to continue practicing.

We were hesitate to incorporate the color pink into our branding, because we have previously be told it was “unprofessional”. However having being inspired by Barbie, we were including it. Full stop. We hope you enjoy the illustrations and colors as much as we did creating them.
