Inspiration
Talent is distributed equally; opportunity is not. In grassroots sports, getting scouted still relies entirely on blind luck—being at the right match, on the right day, in front of the right person. We watched incredibly talented athletes get overlooked simply because they lacked the right network or were buried under archaic recruitment methods like paper binders and highlight DVDs. We built ScoutHub to democratize discovery, shifting the focus from who you know to how you play.
What it does
ScoutHub is a sports talent discovery platform that enables athletes to create professional profiles with stats, achievements, and highlight videos, while allowing clubs and scouts to search, evaluate, and directly connect with players. It streamlines the scouting process by bringing discovery, communication, and opportunities into one centralised platform.
How we built it
Frontend: We built a sleek, responsive dashboard using React, translating our high-fidelity, dark-themed Figma designs into a clean, modern user interface.
Backend: We utilized Firebase to handle our real-time database needs and user authentication, allowing us to rapidly structure the distinct data schemas required for both 'Athlete' and 'Club' profiles.
Challenges we ran into
Building a two-sided marketplace in 60 hours requires ruthless prioritization. Our biggest hurdle was condensing a massive amount of data—player stats, schedules, feeds, and club postings—into a UI that didn't feel overwhelming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud to have transitioned from a raw concept to a fully functional, highly polished MVP over a single weekend. Furthermore, executing a professional, market-ready design aesthetic gave the platform a premium feel right out of the gate.
What we learned
We learned the importance of validating ideas early, prioritising core features, and building quickly under time constraints. Working on a two-sided marketplace also gave us insight into balancing value for both users and designing around existing behaviours like video-first content.
