Inspiration
When we first formed our team together, we were brainstorming problems we have faced as a student at UVic. With scholarship deadlines coming up soon, we all found a common struggle: Finding relevant scholarships using the UVic website. Hence, we decided to make a simplified scholarship finder website called ScholarU.
What it does
Our website streamlines the search process and has personalized matches using filters such as academic year, gender, faculty, race, etc.
How we built it
For the database, we collected the data using AI and manual re-checking, transferring it to MongoDB. We built the website using node.js, css, and html.
Challenges we ran into
Collecting the data and connecting the backend to the front-end was the most challenging part.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to create a comprehensive filtering system to allow students to find scholarships in an accessible manner.
What we learned
We learned about the importance of collaboration, especially being in a team with diverse skillsets.
What's next for ScholarU
Expand our database and add more filters. We also want to improve our UI/UX design.
