Inspiration

We were inspired to create Scarlet Sorcery largely due to the unique theme chosen for HackRU 2024, and we hoped to build off of it and design our own unique game that could serve as a pathway into the magical world of Hogwarts.

What it does

Scarlet Sorcery transports players from Rutgers University into the world of Hogwarts, where they must navigate through the Enchanted Forest and complete minigames to defeat he who must not be names and to save the people of Hogwarts.

How we built it

We built Scarlet Sorcery mainly using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also used Tiled to create and customize many of the backgrounds we used throughout our game.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we encountered was developing many visual aspects of our games along with other issues of getting our minigames to function the way we intended.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially proud of our storytelling and UI that we implemented throughout our game, as we worked hard to incorporate numerous special effects and aspects that we believe makes our game even more unique.

What we learned

As all of our team had no prior experience with HTML or JavaScript, we were able to gain valuable experience working on front-end while creating our game and using Tiled. We also learned how to better deal with bugs and issues that arose during the hackathon, along with valuable lessons in teamwork and problem-solving.

What's next for Scarlet Sorcery

In the future, we hope to improve Scarlet Sorcery with additional minigames, levels, and features to further immerse players in the magical world of Hogwarts. We also aim to further enhance our UI aspects and incorporate user feedback to help our game reach new heights.
