Inspiration

Imagine being in a room full of people, wanting to speak, but the words just won’t come out. That’s the reality for many autistic individuals every day. Approximately 25-30% of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are minimally verbal or nonverbal, making daily communication even more challenging. While assistive tools exist, many are too complex, costly, or impractical for everyday use.

That’s where SayItRight steps in—a simple, intuitive, and accessible tool designed to make self-expression effortless. Our goal is to empower autistic individuals to communicate effectively in daily life.

What it does

SayItRight is a web-based application designed to assist autistic individuals in improving their communication skills. The platform provides real-time feedback on clarity, tone, and politeness using AI-powered sentence analysis. Users can either speak or type their responses and receive instant suggestions for improvement.

Key features include:

Challenges we ran into

We developed two separate prototypes—one with user authentication (login/signup) and another with an AI-powered feedback system that helps users phrase responses more politely. However, we struggled to integrate both into a single functional platform due to backend complexities and the lack of a strong database for storing user information.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we learned:

What's next for SayItRight

We aim to refine and fully integrate our prototypes into a unified platform. Our next steps include:

• 🚀 Merging Authentication & AI Feedback – Combining login/signup with AI-powered feedback into one cohesive site.
• 🗄️ Database Implementation – Setting up a strong database to store user profiles and progress.
• 🎭 Scenario-Based Training – Expanding features to help users practice real-life conversations.
• 🔄 Improved AI Feedback – Enhancing AI responses to provide even more accurate and adaptive suggestions.

With these improvements, SayItRight will move closer to being a fully functional assistive tool for autistic individuals.
