Inspiration

When faced with abuse, it is natural to be scared to reach out for help. Imagine living with your abuser 24/7, with them potentially monitoring everything you do. What do you do then? To us, true empowerment is being able to live freely and make our own choices. And that is at stake here. This is what drove us to make an app that could help people in these situations without putting them in harm's way. To empower and to enable.

What it does

Disguised as an online grocery mart, this app allows vulnerable people to seek out the help they need.

The home page of this app is a product category page wherein each grocery type mentioned represents a different hotline that could aid the user based on what they are experiencing. Upon selection of one of the categories, the respective helpline/hotline number is dialled and all the user must do is click on the call button to be connected.

The Help option is for when they are unable to place a distress call (eg. the abuser may hear and harm the victim) and so they can text our chatbot which after taking their permission sends their location to their emergency contacts.

Stores Near Me option takes them to a map that marks shelters near them and tells them the time it would take to reach the nearest one.

The Reviews option opens an online community of users and lets them build connections.

The Terms and Conditions button takes the user to a simple but important guide of steps to follow to best handle the situation. For eg. documenting their abuse, safety planning, etc.

The final option, the checkout button is for emergency situations and places a call to the emergency number immediately.
