Inspiration
Working as an engineering can be challenging enough without taking into account the potential hazards related to the job at hand. When ConocoPhillips proposed their challenge to increase awareness to these job related hazards we, small baguettes, decided that this would the perfect challenge to help mitigate these risks and really make a difference for the engineering safety community.
What it does
Web based safety awareness tool that implements AR technology to display critical safety information on different equipment. The information can be view instantly by scanning a bar code on that equipment and if need be, the information can also be updated remotely.
How we built it
We mainly used front-end application: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also implemented A-Frame (3D framework for VR) and AR.js for AR application.
Challenges we ran into
Implement AR to web application. We also tried to use Google Firebase Storage to write/read assets and create a database, but we ran short on time and could not implement Cloud service. The rest are working prototypes that we aimed for.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have no prior experience working with AR and little knowledge on JavaScript coding. However, we were able to complete the main goals and create a workable demo.
What we learned
AR developments, Front-End, GLTF, Blender
What's next for Safety Awareness Tool
Fully implement Google Cloud for data management and automation. Create procedures to organize safety data and 3D model creation. Can potential expand to Android/iOS app.
