Inspiration
We were inspired to make SafeSlopes, as we live in Salt Lake City(Utah) and Love skiing a lot. But when we found out that there wasn't a resource that told us the covid cases in counties near the Ski Resorts, we decided to make our own.
What it does
When you give it a resort name(or part of!) it will try its best to search its database of resorts, then find the corresponding county, and finally, find the covid data and tell you.
How we built it
Over the three days, we had to do spreadsheet formatting to get our database working, programming the user being able to search, and returning the Covid-19 Data.
Challenges we ran into
We also ran into many challenges along the way, but one of the biggest ones was being able to interpret multiple different(large sized) spreadsheets quickly, so that we are able to get accurate data to the user every time. Another big challenge was the front end, both of us don't do front end work whatsoever, so when we tried to make a front end, it failed drastically(leaving our project CLI based).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to mostly interpret spreadsheets accurately, by the end of the three days.
What we learned
C++ skills, both of us wanted to challenge our selves, because C++ wasn't a language that we use often.
What's next for SafeSlopes
We do want to finish this as a private project after the hackathon, because we feel like we can do better. So we will make a website/front end and make it public for people to use.
