SafePrep is a multi-focused web application designed to promote a community-driven response to natural disaster threats. It is a link between communities, emergency services units and weather agencies
Inspiration: We saw the need for better communication between the community, emergency responders, and weather agencies during Hurricane Ian. We pulled our collective thoughts together and said, "There must be a better way." Then we decided to create it.
What it does: SafePrep is a multi-focused web application designed to promote a community-driven response to natural disaster threats through on-time text messages and cross-communication between community residents, homeless shelters, weather organizations and emergency response units.
How we built it: We used a combination of HTML5/CSS3, Figma, and Clipchamp to built the site, create the video, and incorporate pictures and pdfs
Challenges we ran into: Implementing backend functionality and time constraints associated with that learning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Original concepts that could lead to real-world lifesaving and minimize search times for rescuers during catastrophic weather events
What we learned: The fundamental concepts of HTML and CSS; the theory behind Agile Project Management; and Figma prototyping.
What's next for SafePrep: Implementing JavaScript client side and server side functionality as well as API integration of this particular app. When fully developed we anticipate that it will be a great resource for communities in high-risk areas that are prone to heavy natural disasters.
