Inspiration

I was inspired by the 16th UNSDG which is about developing peace, justice, and strong institutions. So this SDG made me think about asylum seeking and refugee problems, and the biggest one I had seen on the news this year was the Ukraine Crisis where people where fleeing the country and having trouble entering certain countries.

What it does

My proposed app allows those seeking asylum to find the asylums, and streamline the process. This can be done by showing the seeker documents and identifications that they will need, and showing the user specific places to enter the country at. I want to have features on the proposed app that will make the app both helpful, secure, and accessible. Some features are: -Account: accounts are like a backup online wallet, they can have documents in them in case the user does not have their physical copy. You can add family or friends by their specialized to see what country they are going to. -Asylum Finder:Using information from the users account this can help display what countries are accepting the certain asylum seekers/refugee. It will also match by distance from user. -Language: I want the app to have the ability to be translated into many different languages, so the app can be more accessible.

How we built it

I made the pitch through google slides, and I made the mock up of the app on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges with the app is that I want the app to be as accessible as possible, this can be an issue if you are targeting a group of people that speak a wide range of languages, which is why I think it would be both fun and beneficial to implement a language translation component to the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the research that I did for this project. I learned a lot about refugees and asylum seekers and the hardships that they go through just to find safety. I am also proud of my user interface design as I feel like my design skills get better with every project that I do, and I feel like I have made a lot of progress since my first design.

What we learned

I learned a lot about the refugee and asylum seeking process, how it works, and the ways in which certain countries process people seeking safety.

What's next for Safe Harbors

The next thing for Safe Harbors would probably be to start coding the app. The front-end part. Also writing up a plan on how to do so.
