Inspiration
The original password game inspired us, and when we looked at its rules and ideas put into it, we loved the idea and wanted to put our spin on it with our own rules and ideas.
What it does
RU password game is a password creation simulation with wacky rules that test your puzzle-solving and adaptability skills. It has 28 rules (for now!) that are specifically designed to complement each other to challenge the player as they go further down the rule chain (e.g., Rule 7 has you make all numbers in the password add to 33, and many other rules make players change numbers around, making this a reoccurring rule throughout the game.) The game is completed once all rules are satisfied, which looks something like this... (m72561no/rdnzamericascksu28a:)madisonparadoxredbcamdenfgh2jklqtvwxeyzmemorycawm)
How we built it
The RU Password Game was built using Java. We designated different parts of the project to different people in a shared workspace. We had two people working on the main class, someone creating rule ideas and implementing all of the rule classes, someone working on the front end, and someone
Challenges we ran into
One of the hardest challenges we did not expect was creating and modifying rules to balance the game. Countless times during playtesting, we would realize that we could not proceed in the game due to a rule being unable to be fulfilled. So we fine-tuned the difficulty so that it was not impossible and it was not too hard but not too easy as well, giving a fair challenge to the player.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how far we have gotten into the game. Most of us have never been to a hackathon before, and in the beginning, we thought that there was a chance that we would not be able to get it to work, but now, with all of the hard work we did for the past 24 hours, we have blown all of our expectations out of the water. We firmly believe we could not have improved much more in this timeframe, but we are excited to continue to improve the game after the hackathon.
What we learned
We learned about using UI seamlessly in Java and making programs more optimized. For the rules, we learned how to scale the difficulty so that the game does not have a sharp jump in difficulty as the rules go on.
What's next for RU Password Game
Although we far exceeded our expectations when we first started working on this project, we have even more ideas envisioned for the RU Password Game in the future, such as new rules, a hard mode, and an improved UI/UX
