Rowdy Runner

Inspiration -

Our inspiration stems from the nostalgic allure of "Subway Surfers," a captivating infinite scroller game known for its engaging yet repetitive gameplay. Motivated to infuse this timeless concept with a personal touch, we aimed to encapsulate the essence of our beloved university, introducing a unique twist that resonates with our collective experience.

What it does -

The game scrolls infinitely through a highway as obstacles come your way and it is up to the player to help our beloved rowdy runner to dodge the obstacles and obtain a high score

How we built it -

We built the app using collaborative tools like VS code live share to communicate and code effectively. In addition, the game was coded in python with the addition of the pygame library, and adobe photoshop to create the artistic assets that the game uses.

Challenges we ran into-

During our project, our team encountered a few challenges stemming from a limited grasp of Python. One significant problem we faced was navigating the intricacies of the p5 library and attempting to integrate it into our workflow. Unfortunately, this problem took a considerable amount of time, only to discover that we ultimately didn't incorporate the p5 code into our final project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of -

We take pride in successfully navigating the project's development amidst a tight timeframe and high stress. Despite the challenges of working under pressure, our team is pleased to have delivered a polished and mechanically robust project. This accomplishment ensures a delightful and engaging experience for any enthusiast of the genre.

What we learned-

Our experience taught us that successful pressure management hinges on meticulous planning. At the outset of our hackathon, we initially opted for Python and the P5 library, only to discover compatibility issues on our local machines. This necessitated a last-minute switch to Pygame. Hence, our key takeaway is the critical importance of organization and effective communication in executing time-sensitive projects as a team.

What's next for Rowdy Runner -

Looking ahead, the future of Rowdy Runner involves enriching the game with greater complexity. Initially conceptualized, our vision includes introducing a progressively challenging landscape and obstacles, complemented by power-ups to enhance survival or dismantle barriers. Moreover, we aim to refine the movement system, offering players the freedom to navigate obstacles with the creativity and agility reminiscent of a true roadrunner.
