Inspiration

We were inspired by our fellow students who struggle with perfectionism and can't write their thoughts in large quantities. The goal for Rose is to help people struggling with writer’s block by encouraging the user to generate large quantities of writing by motivating the user with graphics that grow with their character count.

What it does

The writer submits a character count they wish to complete and every time a character is entered, grass grows, and when milestones in the character count is reached, a flower will grow.

How we built it

We used html and javascript to create a website that generates grass based on the amount of characters the writer entered. Every time the user enters a character, blades of grass are randomly generated on the screen.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time coding with javascript or html and had a steep learning curve.

What's next for Rose

With further development, Rose would be a word count system instead of a character count system because it is easier for a writer to set a word goal. In addition, Rose could use auditory processing technology to allow users to set an amount of time they wish to write, transcribe the words the users say, give an auditory cue for when the user has reached their goal, and present the words to the user afterwards for editing. If the user does not speak the amount of words they wished to, Rose would prompt the user to continue talking.
