Inspiration
We were "inspired" by what could be generously called a roommate finder in GT's StarRez platform, used by ResLife to assign roommates. In only allows three pieces of information, and doesn't include things like interests, dietary restrictions, or even where you want to live.
What it does
Roma takes cues from apps like ZeeMee and Tindr, making a cross-campus platform for finding roommates. It allows browsing for roommates, swiping left or right on them (or "save for later" if you're not sure) and then contacting them to see what you have in common.
How we built it
We created a detailed prototype in Figma, a no-code solution that worked well for our team.
Challenges we ran into
Well, this was the first hackathon for both of us. We couldn't code much since I (Davis) haven't coded much outside of class and I (David) hasn't coded much at all. Also, Davis got a cold around the time the hackathon started. 😷
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a mostly complete app in Figma, a platform we hadn't even heard of before the event.
What we learned
- How to use Figma
- How to work through it
- Dealing with sleep dep
What's next for Roma
After the event, we're exploring making an MVP for mobile and approaching potential campus partners about their needs and implementation.
