Inspiration
In these trying times, we decided we wanted to help our dedicated school counselors with their work. Robot Counselor does just that, assisting and optimizing the organization of students and their schedules.
What it does
Robot Counselor is a state of the art program that efficiently organizes and sorts the schedules and of students.
How we built it
We utilized NetBeans, a Java IDE, to implement a interactive interface that allows anyone to input a student's information and classes into a database with the help of SQLite. This information is sorted and optimized through the use of an algorithm to help students and counselors determine the most efficient schedule.
Challenges we ran into
One of our greatest challenges deals with the connection between the database and the input of information. Learning how to manipulate data and how it is organized into the database in particular was the source of many errors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Considering this was our first hackathon, and our intermediate experience with programming we were able to put our skills to the test and make a program under a time constraint. Features such as our organizing algorithm and data manipulation with databases in particular are significant accomplishments for our group.
What we learned
We learned many things through the creation of Robot Counselor. Learning how to distribute work and collaborate with one another was a vital skill learned through the development process. Learning the strengths and weaknesses of each team member allowed us to delegate tasks effectively and promoted higher quality interactions with one another.
What's next for Robot Counselor
Our main goal for Robot Counselor was to produce an application accessible to anyone, especially students and school counselors. Thus, we plan to develop cross platform capabilities and apply our program to a websites and mobile applications that are available to people around the world.
