Creating Sustainable Communities, One Ripple at a Time

Inspiration

During the World Cup, Japanese fans inspired the world by staying after matches to clean the stadium. They weren't paid or asked to do it—they simply cared about their community.

That inspired us to create Ripple, a platform that makes community service easier, more engaging, and more rewarding. We wanted to help people find opportunities to make a difference while building stronger, cleaner communities.

What It Does

Ripple connects volunteers with local cleanup opportunities through an interactive platform.

Users can:

Find litter hotspots
Join cleanup events
Upload before-and-after photos
Track volunteer hours and impact
Earn rewards and recognition

Ripple turns small acts of service into lasting community impact.

How We Built It

We designed Ripple using Figma and focused on creating a simple, mobile-friendly experience.

Our prototype includes:

Interactive hotspot maps
Event management tools
Volunteer dashboards
Leaderboards and rewards
Photo verification workflows

We also explored future AI integrations for identifying litter hotspots and tracking environmental impact.

Challenges We Ran Into

Our biggest challenge was ensuring accountability.

We had to answer questions like:

How do we verify cleanups?
How do we prevent reward abuse?
How do we keep volunteers engaged long-term?

To address this, we incorporated photo verification, admin-managed events, and gamification features.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We're proud that Ripple goes beyond reporting litter. It creates a sustainable volunteer ecosystem that encourages community engagement, environmental stewardship, and long-term participation.

Most importantly, we're proud of the idea behind Ripple: one small action can inspire many others.

What We Learned

We learned that sustainability is not just about the environment—it's about people.

Many individuals want to help their communities but lack awareness, opportunities, or motivation. Technology can bridge that gap by making volunteering more accessible, social, and rewarding.
